Trastevere, Jewish Quarter
The area bounded by the Tiber to
the south, Campo de' Fiori to the west, and Piazza Venezia to the east is
known as the Jewish Quarter, or the Ghetto. It is a peaceful neighborhood in
the center of Rome, largely isolated from the traffic and chaos that
characterize some areas of the center. The streets in this quarter retain
much of their authentic character dating back to the Middle Ages. Shops can
be found selling Kosher food, and some of the Roman-Jewish restaurants in
the area are among the best restaurants in Rome.
The Jewish Quarter puts one within walking distance of Campo de' Fiori,
Trastevere, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Tiber Island, and the Capitoline
Hill. Buses and trams are available nearby for transport to all other areas
of the city.
Picturesque and authentic,
Trastevere is one of the old quarters of the city where the past remains
deeply entrenched in the present. Almost all of the buildings date back to
the 1500's, and the narrow, cobblestone streets impart a sense of the long
and winding history of the quarter. The prevalent atmosphere is one of days
gone by, created in part by the small, quaint shops, in part by the historic
streets, and in part by the absence of large hotels. Trastevere also
benefits from its proximity to the Janiculum Hill, a popular place to take
walks. When evening comes, Trastevere awakens to an exciting nightlife. With
its restaurants, bars, coffee shops and clubs, Trastevere by night offers
innumerable treasures to discover.
Trastevere is situated in the heart of the historic center of Rome, and it
is within short walking distance of all the other zones in the center. For
instance, in fifteen minutes you can reach Saint Peter's, in ten minutes
Campo de' Fiori, in fifteen minutes Piazza Navona, and in twenty minutes the
Roman Forum. The quarter is also well connected to all parts of the city
center by bus and by tram, and offers connections to the airport from the "Trastevere"
train station.
The prices of the apartments include all utilities, the use of all electrical appliances, cleaning service, linen and towels. There is min 5 nights stay in the apartment.
