Price: $3195pp/dbl, $2745 3rd & 4th share w/dbl
Description:
Alaska is a rare treasure. Few
places on earth offer encounters with wildlife roaming free in its eternal
domain, or awe-inspiring scenery caused by mountain and water, snow and ice,
forest and tundra. Alaska, perhaps more than any other region in North America,
is cloaked in a mystical aura that ignites the imagination. Its mountains,
glaciers, coastline and wilderness are without equal in symbolizing the "Final
Frontier", a last opportunity to experience the wilderness in its most pristine,
unspoiled expression.
Day 1. Our adventure begins in
Fairbanks, where we explore interior Alaskan history and culture as we cruise
the Chena River.
Day 2-3.
In Denali National Park, the crown jewel of America's national park system and
larger than the state of Massachusetts, we will experience the wonders of nature
through nature tours, white water rafting and of course, hiking (optional flight
seeing is also available). The park is home to abundant wildlife including
grizzlies, moose, caribou, dall sheep, golden eagles, wolves, arctic ground
squirrels, and many other species indigenous to Alaska. Gaze in awe at Denali
itself, the highest point in North America.
Day 4-7.
Traveling south, we will hike and explore the glaciers of Kenai Fjords National
Park as we hike the Harding Ice Field to 3000ft. From the port of Seward we
visit the Sea Life Center and then cruise Prince William Sound, the most diverse
ecosystem found in the Eastern Pacific. The Sound features pristine wilderness,
ice-capped mountain scenery, mammoth glaciers, and towering rain forests. Cruise
through fjords, bays and secluded passageways, searching out whales, seals,
otters, sea lions, eagles, puffin, and countless shore birds. While in Seward we
will climb Mt. Marathon affording us spectacular views of the surrounding
glaciers.
Day 8-10.
At our Wilderness lodge located in Alaska's spectacular Talkeetna Mountains
experience hundreds of square miles of impossible beauty and bounty; a seemingly
endless expanse of rolling forests, mountain meadows, hidden lakes, whispering
streams and turquoise glaciers. We explore nearby glaciers and mountain
passageways as we pan for gold in hidden streams, hike, kayak and mountain bike
watching for bears, moose, and many other species of wildlife, naturalists
lecture to us on the area's natural history highlights.
Accommodations & Meals: Lodging will be at comfortable rustic hotels,
inns, and lodges. A kosher kitchen is set up at each of our lodgings to supply
the group with freshly cooked Glatt kosher meals.
Comments: While at a number of different locations, participants will have a choice of different activities or may choose to explore on their own.
