Jewish Itineraries in Italy

Below you find suggested itineraries for individuals and groups, prices are on request, please email number of people, hotels category choice (3* or 4* or 5*), dates and we will provide you a quote.

Classic Italy Tour 11 nights/12 days

1st day: Rome

Transfer up on arrival. Welcome  drink at the hotel. Panoramic city tour by “horse carriage” and  guide,  up to the historical Jewish Ghetto. Visit of the new Synagogue and the Museum. Lunch at “Zi Fenizia” to eat delicious “kosher pizza”, “falafel” and other specialities. The tour follows to the Tiberina Island and to the “Tempio dei Giovani”.

2nd day: Rome

TRASTEVERE – AVENTINO – CAPITOL HILL

Transfer with guide  to Trastevere to meet friends at the Italian Rabbinical College. Proceed for the city tour, by the Roman paths of the Jewish Historical Communities. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner at Gigetto’s  Restaurant, or similar, to taste the typical Jewish cuisine.

3rd day: Rome

OSTIA ANTICA – ANAGNI – ARICCIA – FRASCATI

Leave by coach with guide to visit the important ruins of Ostia Antica. Proceed to the famous Castelli Romani. Small  resorts, renowned for  their  wine, further  testimonials of  the  Jewish presence. Optional visit at Villa Aldobrandini and  Villa Torlonia (entrance not included). The celebrated amanuense Menachem Zemach, lived in the village of Frascati, where he beautifully  illustrated the Book of Kings. “Products and wine tasting”  in a local Farm, for lunch.

 4th day: Rome

VATICAN MUSEUM AND SISTINE CHAPEL

Transfer to the Vatican Museums for the  visit of Sistine Chapel. Classical escorted city tour in the afternoon.

5th day: Rome/Siena/Florence

Breakfast in hotel and departure to Siena, via “Pitigliano”, very well known as “Little Jerusalem”. Arrival in Siena, splendid gothic city and visit of the Cathedral, the gothic Municipal Palace, Piazza del Campo, the ancient Ghetto and the Synagogue, built in 1786. Proceed to Florence, accommodation and time free. Dinner in a local typic “kosher” restaurant. Overnight.

6th day: Florence/Pisa

After breakfast, meeting with guide for an half day Florence sightseeing, visiting the Duomo, one of the largest gothic Cathedral in the world, the Baptistery of St. John, with its splendid bronze doors by Ghiberti, Signoria Square, Loggia dei Lanzi and Ponte Vecchio, the Synagogue, with splendid frescoes and mosaics, the Jewish Museum, the florentine Ghetto, completely demolished, and the Jewish Cemetery with beautiful sculptures and few monumental chapels. Lunch and time free. In the afternoon, excursion to Pisa, to admire the famous leaning Tower (outside), the Synagogue and the Jewish Cemetery. Return to Florence and overnight.

7th day: Florence/Bologna/Ferrara/Venice

After breakfast, departure to Bologna, to visit the medieval Ghetto, perfectly preserved, the Synagogue and the Cemetery. Proceed to Ferrara for a short stop to visit the Diamanti Palace, the Cathedral, the Ghetto, Piazza Mazzini and the Estensi Castle. Proceed to Soragna, for visiting the Synagogue and Carpi, to visit the Museum of “Deportation”, opened in 1973. Lunch en route. Arrival in Venice and time free. Overnight.

8th day: Venice

After breakfast, walking tour to visit this fascinating town (St. Mark Square, Doge’s Palace, Ducal Palace, Bridge of Sights, the five Synagogues, with different “Scholas”, the Ghetto, the oldest one in Europe and the Jewish Museum. Lunch in a typical “Kosher” restaurant. Afternoon free. In the evening, you can enjoy an optional “venetian gondola serenade”. Overnight.

9th day: Venice (Murano/Burano/Torcello)

Morning excursion to islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello, by motorboat, where you can visit also a glass Factory. Lunch. Afternoon free at leisure. Overnight.

10th day: Venice/Verona/Milan

After breakfast, departure to Verona, the town of Romeo and Juliet, where the poet Abraham Ibn Ezra lived. Lunch en route. Proceed to Milan, accommodation in hotel and overnight.

11th day: Milan

Morning sightseeing for visiting the famous gothic Duomo, with one of the oldest Menorah, the Pinacoteca di Brera, Castello Sforzesco, Sant’Ambrogio, La Scala Opera House, S. Maria delle Grazie and Last Supper, the big Jewish Community, with kosher restaurants and shops, Central Temple, the “Schola Shapira”, the various Oratoriums, etc. Lunch in a typical Kosher restaurant. Afternoon free for shopping or other private visits. Overnight.

12th day: Milan

Breakfast and time free for departure.
