Arrive at OR Thambo International Airport (ORTIA) in Johannesburg. You will be
met on arrival and assisted to Domestic Departures for onward flight to Port
Elizabeth.
Arrive at Port Elizabeth where you will be met and transferred to The Windermere
for an overnight stay.
27 June : Port Elizabeth – Plettenberg Bay
Rental car will be delivered to the hotel. Depart for Plettenberg Bay. En route
stop at The Tsitsikamma Forest, an indigenous forest with giant yellowwood
trees, lush vegetation and deep gorges. Travel through the magnificent Nature’s
Valley and Bloukrans Pass and visit the “Big Tree”, an 800 year old Yellowwood.
At the Storms River mouth there are several short walking trails into the forest

Suggestion: This morning you can do an unforgettable 4-hour tour of the
Featherbed Nature Reserve. This private reserve is accessible only by ferry and
the excursion includes the ferry trip across the Knysna Lagoon to the reserve, a
4x4 trailer ride to the top of the western Head of Knysna and an optional 2,2km
walk down the “Bush Buck” trail, through milkwood forests, into the sandstone
cliffs and into the historic beachcomber caves.
The qualified guide will share interesting tales and information about the area.
If you don’t wish to walk down you may take a vehicle return to the bottom. The
afternoon you can spend wandering around Knysna, famous for its wooden arts and
crafts or visiting Birds of Eden or Monkeyland or hiking in the area. Birds of
Eden, is the Garden Route’s own world-class free flight bird sanctuary. The
unique two-hectare dome (the World’s largest) spans over a gorge of indigenous
forest. The sanctuary has its own mysterious ruin, which incorporates a
walk-behind waterfall. The sanctuary’s dome incorporates the ability to
synthesise thunder and create short spells of rain
from an irrigation system in the dome structure. Roofed viewpoints within the
gorge have been erected for use during these brief rainstorms.
Monkeyland is the world’s largest free-roaming primate sanctuary. Here you can
wander around on your own or accompanied by a ranger.
30 June : Plettenberg Bay – Cape Town

This morning you’ll depart Plettenberg Bay and travel over the spectacular
Outeniqua Pass into the Little Karoo, arriving at Oudtshoorn, which was the
“feather capital” of the world in the late 1800’s. (You could do hikes etc if
you prefer in Knysna area) The Jewish community was very influential in the
development of the industry and the growth of Oudtshoorn. There are about 20
Jewish families remaining. Visit the Cango Caves, an underground wonderland of
stalactites and stalagmites, an ostrich farm (there is opportunity for limited
ostrich riding here) and the Cango Wildlife Ranch. We may be able to have the
Shul opened for you. Arrive at George Airport in the late afternoon from where
you’ll take a flight to Cape Town. You will be met on arrival and transferred to
The Clarendon Bantry Bay for a 5-night stay.

Proceed to explore this magical city. Take a cable-car up Table Mountain; visit
the Jewish Museum and Holocaust Centre.
The South African Jewish Museum was officially opened by former president Mr
Nelson Mandela in 2000 and is a major attraction in CT. It is situated on the
heritage site of the Gardens Synagogue, the Cape Town Holocaust Centre and
Gitlin library. The Museum narrates the story of SA Jewry from its early
beginnings. Its entrance is situated
in the Old synagogue that dates back to 1863. The museum is interactive and
high-tech, providing a host of experiences at include audiovisual presentations,
multimedia,
reconstructed sets and interactive computers.
2 July – Cape Town

Depart on a full day sightseeing tour to Cape Point. This 25 mile drive to Cape
Point should include a stop at Hout Bay, a beautiful fishing village from where
a boat trip can be made to Duiker Island, to see the mass of seals (weather
permitting) .To arrive at Cape Point, you pass through the 7750 hectare plant
rich expanse of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. This reserve is home to a
variety of indigenous wildlife species including the Cape Mountain zebra, red
lynx, caracal and a variety of antelope. In addition about five troops of chacma
baboons frequent the area. There are also over 250 species of marine birds.
Viewers may be lucky enough to spot seals, whales and dolphins. Leaving the
reserve you drive along the False Bay coastline to Boulders beach, home of the
largest Jackass Penguin colony in South Africa. A stop can then be made at
Simonstown a naval base or Kalk Bay, the new “in” place for arts and crafts in
the Cape. Then it’s back to the city via Boyes Drive.
3 July : Cape Town

South Africa is the world's seventh largest wine producer, and its vineyards are
as spectacular as those of France, Italy and California. Leaving Cape Town
proceed through the spectacular mountain scenery and lush fertile valleys of the
Cape to Stellenbosch, South Africa's second oldest city. This oak lined
university town has a museum showing different styles of architecture in the
Cape from the 16th century. Make your way to Franschhoek, nestled in the valley
where the French Huguenots first settled. Visit the Taal Monument in Paarl. Pass
the Victor Verster Prison from where former President Mr. Nelson Mandela was
released in 1994. The day can be spent combining a mixture of fascinating
history with spectacular scenery and wine tastings at a kosher winery.
4 July : Cape Town

Various suggestions can be made depending on your interests. Here are just a
couple. Robben Island is a heritage site, the maximum security "prison" where
former president Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years. The Robben Island tour
starts at Jetty 1 on the V&A Waterfront where the ticket office, shop and
information centre is located. The standard tour includes a return boat trip
across Table Bay, a visit to the infamous Maximum Security Prison; interaction
with an ex-political prisoner; a 45 minute bus tour with a guide providing
commentary; the opportunity to explore the Murray's Bay Harbour precinct
including the African penguin boardwalk and hide. The tour lasts 3.5 hours
including the return ferry rides that take 1/2 hour each.
This afternoon you could visit Kirstenbosch : These magnificent gardens nestle
on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, in the southern suburbs. The National
Botanical Garden covers 560ha of land, stretching up the mountain to its highest
point. There are several walks that lead through the garden, where staff
cultivate 4000 of the 22000 southern African flowering plants in a setting of
mountain streams, pools and rolling lawns. At any time you should visit the V&A
Waterfront, which is Cape Town’s hot spot for shopping and entertainment. Set
amidst a maritime backdrop of modern ships and turn of the century sailing
vessels, the V&A Waterfront provides a harmonious setting for a drink or a
stroll along the pier. The most remarkable and unique aspect of the V&A
Waterfront is that it remains a real working harbour with a rich cultural
heritage dating back hundreds of years.

This morning you’ll make your way back to Cape Town Airport for a flight to
Nelspruit, from where you will transfer by light aircraft to a game lodge

ever-cautious impala huddled together, a leopard in the branches of a knobthorn
tree with a kill from the last hours of darkness, a herd of elephant feeding in
the lush vegetation or a pride of lion in the shade of an acacia. Tea/coffee are
served prior to departing the lodge, and again there will be refreshments about
mid-way through the drive. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Now clients have
the option of a bush walk, accompanied by an armed ranger. A wonderful way to
learn about the flora and fauna of the area. Afternoon/evening program as per

the Mpumalanga Escarpment.
Blyde River Canyon. You will pass through many scenic routes while driving
through this area. A tour could include the historic mining town of Pilgrim’s
Rest, the panoramic splendour of God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon (the third
largest canyon in the world) and the rock formations of the Three Rondawels and
Bourke’s Luck potholes. A number of waterfalls such as Mac Mac Falls could also
be included in the tour.
Pilgrims Rest
The history of gold mining on the greater escarpment is encapsulated in the
museum displays, shops, mines and hills of Pilgrims Rest. This village became a
household name in 1873 when a miner, Alex Patterson, discovered alluvial gold on
the farm Ponieskranz. The mine, which operated profitably for many years, was
eventually closed in 1972. Today many of the original buildings have been
restored to create a living museum.
Bourkes Luck Potholes
This natural feature is a magnificent example of a landscape hewn over centuries
by the movement of water. You will view the potholes and rock-faces from bridges
spanning the river.
Blyde River Canyon
The third largest canyon in the world, and one of the area’s most spectacular
attractions. There are views over the province into the Kruger National Park and
Mozambique.
You’ll be dropped off at Jatinga Country Lodge near White River. Check in for an
