Hydra - former home of Leonard Cohen and jet setter haven
Monemvassia - with its romantic medieval fortress
Kythira island - off the beaten path,
Jewish Crete for Shabbat (see below)

sensational Santorini, with its cave houses and so much more
surprising Sifnos, for a breathtaking hike, boutique shopping...
Shabbat in Crete .... and Motza'ei Shabbat

We have deliberately chosen to sail from Athens on a Wednesday so that we can spend Shabbat moored in Chania, davening in Crete's only "active" synagogue, Etz Hayyim, dating from the 14th century.
Until 1999, Etz Hayyim was a desecrated house of prayer that remained the sole Jewish monument on the island of Crete after the destruction of Crete's Jewish community in 1944; it stood as a somber record of the success of the Nazis in obliterating 2,300 years of Jewish presence on the island of Crete.
Between 1996 and 1999, the structure was painstakingly restored. The philosophy that directed this work is summed up in the phrase "עם ישראל חי" . Today it stands as a vibrant statement of Jewish life, vitality and values
