Suggested hotels.

Hotel Angleterre****    Friedrichstrasse 31, 10969 Berlin / Germany

The hotel is situated in the historical centre of the city, near Checkpoint Charlie and the breathtaking Gendarmenmarkt square. Established in 1891 as an original Berlin lodging house the wall and ceiling paintings are still fascinating.  The big ceiling windows illuminate the hotel lobby in the day time as well as huge lusters in the evening.  157 air conditioned rooms of the hotel are equipped with advanced communications technology.

 Hotel Courtyard Berlin-Mitte by Marriott ****, Axel-Springer-Str.55, 10117 Berlin / Germany

The first class 267-room hotel is located in the center of Berlin south of Leipziger Strasse, within walking distance of the Gendarmenmarkt, the former East Berlin‘s main square. Nearby is the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, Germany‘s Parliament Building. The opening of hotel was on June 01, 2005.

Park Inn Hotel Berlin****  Alexanderplatz, 10178 Berlin / Germany

day 2. Excursion to Potsdam

We would suggest the following itinerary:

08h00               Transfer to Wannsee (on the route to Potsdam) and stop at House of the Wannsee Conference (daily opened from 10h00-18h00) and Liebermann-Villa

                        only outdoor visit possible

This was the site of one of the most notorious conferences in history: a meeting of Nazi bureaucrats and SS officials to plan the annihilation of European Jewry. The minutes of the conference were kept by Adolf Eichmann, the sallow-faced SS functionary who later mapped out transport logistics for sending millions of Jews to their deaths.

The villa is now a memorial to the Holocaust. It includes a selection of photographs of men, women, and children who were sent to concentration camps. This exhibit is not for the squeamish. Nearly all the pictures on display are official Nazi photographs, including some of Nazi medical experiments. As noted at the trials at Nürnberg, "No government in history ever did a better job of photographing and documenting its crimes against humanity."

The villa at Wannsee was painter Max Liebermann's summer house from 1910 till he died in 1935. Until autumn 2002 the German Underwater Club was based here. Since then the Max Liebermann Society in Berlin has been working to restore the house and garden.

It’s opened Friday from 02h00 till 6 pm and Saturday/Sunday from 11:00 am till 6:00 pm

Anne M. from , OR. Private tour from Cologne to see Dusseldorf and Nieder-Wiessen to do genealogical research.
Peter was fabulous. Had a lot of info about Jews in the area, including all the Jewish cemeteries. He was a wonderful translator and very assertive in asking locals information. We could not have asked for more. Thanks, Anne
