Leave Palermo following the coast and stop in Erice, a lovely medieval hilltop town perched high above a fairy-tale coastal landscape and the perfect place for sweet tempations being home to one of Sicilian most famous pastry chef, Maria Grammatico. The Venus Castle dating back from the Norman period, 12th century, was built on top of the ancient temple of Venus, and according to the legend the temple was founded by Aeneas.

Later head to the sea to follow the historic salt route dotted with windmills and the so called salt houses (mountains of salt-covered with tiles). The salt pans still function as they have for centuries.
